As a portrait photographer, I mostly shoot for the client and their specific needs. This is how I make money – but also because I find it very rewarding to shoot images that are needed and used.

But sometimes your inner artist needs attention too. I also need images that are born only from my own imagination. This time a fantasy photography was born.

Idea for fantasy photography

I got the idea of photographs by the water. Something dreamy, a bit “out of this world”, with vintage colours of old film footage.

I told Kira about the idea because I knew that she had also dreamed of doing a water-themed shoot and that she was a big fan of fantasy. She immediately got excited and said: “Let’s do it”. Soon we were planning together what to wear, what kind of make-up to do and where to shoot.

We had to cancel our first attempt due to bad weather, and the location was a big question mark – until I got a tip from my family.

A trip to Vihavuosi – the perfect place

We drove about 45 minutes from Hämeenlinna to Vihavuosi. There we found a beautiful natural creek. The water was flowing strongly, surrounded by green moss and beautiful trees.

When we saw the place, we laughed and hugged each other. We were so happy! It felt like all the stars were aligned. This was the perfect place for fantasy photography.

What this fantasy photoshoot felt like

What I love most is when visions turn into real photographs. When the camera snaps and I see the image on the screen, I feel like the dreams are coming to life. Nature gives me endless inspiration.

I love living in the middle of beautiful nature. Here I can realise my dreams and work on new projects. Fantasy photography is a way for me to tell stories without words.
