At the beginning of this week I got to shoot a new project for Studio Nada, a yoga studio in the heart of Hämeenlinna, Wetterhoff House. The studio is run by Brooke and her team, offering yoga, pilates and other forms of wellness and exercise in a beautiful, peaceful environment.
Brooke had hoped for images that would show the real feel of the studio: the warmth, the openness and the gentle energy that you feel as soon as you walk through the door.
And oh my – these pictures were a joy to take.
The shoot took place in the studio’s large yoga room.
High ceilings, old windows and understated decor created the perfect environment for a breathtaking and soft visual expression.
Yoga studio where light works magic
The space is perfect for yoga photos. The light from the windows is beautiful, but in winter, when daylight is scarce, it is still cosy. The atmosphere is immediately calming. The photographs were designed to convey this same feeling on Studio Nada’s website and marketing materials, so that the right clients would find their way here.
The lack of light in November is not a problem – after many years of studying light and learning from the best teachers, I know how to create my own light. And once again it was useful!
Careful planning = a relaxed and smooth shooting day
As always with business photoshoots, design is half the battle.
I worked with Brooke:
- preliminary survey
- a detailed shot list
- a clear timetable for each instructor
This is the part that clients often praise: when the plan is in order, the day of the shoot itself feels light. No one is in a hurry, no one feels like they are in the “wrong place at the wrong time”.
At Studio Nada, this worked perfectly – the morning ran smoothly, all the scenes were shot in time, and the good mood of the instructors shone through in every frame.
Smiling faces and ease in photos
Perhaps the best moment of the whole morning was when I noticed how easily the instructors relaxed in front of the camera.
Often the first few minutes of a corporate shoot are spent defusing tension – but here, all I found were genuine smiles and the kind of quiet, calm joy that is perfect for a yoga studio.
The presence of the directors made the images soft but professional, exactly what new clients want to see before their first lesson.
Why is it worth doing a business shoot at your premises in Hämeenlinna?
I have a small studio where I can take beautiful portrait photos.
But often, as in this case, the best solution is to shoot where the service is actually happening.
In this case, the images are:
- authentic
- connected to the space
- visually recognisable
- clear and informative for the customer
For Studio Nada, the space was so central to the brand that the decision to shoot on location was a no-brainer.
Studio Nada’s shoot was warm, light and beautifully rhythmic. It’s moments like these that always remind me why I love this job: I get to be
