A full moon idea born by chance

This photo story started quite unexpectedly. I was in the middle of my everyday life, cutting my hair in the bathroom and thinking about the full moon, when the idea struck me – what if we went to the forest for a witchy photo session? It was a rainy week and the light was hazy, just the kind that draws out the breath and stories of the forest.

I sent a message to my friend Hilpi, and she immediately replied, “I’m in!”
I packed my camera and a small fog machine in my bag and we headed for the forest.

A friendship that began in the photo studio

I originally met Hilpi in February when I made a model call for my new portfolio. I photographed her for the first time then, and soon after her family – Hilpi has four sons and a partner. Somewhere in between, we became friends. Nowadays we see each other almost every week: going to the flea market, for coffee, taking pictures or just chatting.

Hilpi is also the one who patiently speaks Finnish with me, even though I sometimes stumble over words. She has taught me a lot about Finnish mythology and helped me to connect with the land more deeply.

Images of the power of friendship and nature

This time I wanted to capture the magical, down-to-earth energy that Hilpi has always had. The forest was damp and quiet, raindrops sparkled on the branches and a fog machine added a touch of mystery to the atmosphere. The images became full of soft light, mist and story – like a small window into another world.

When I look at the photos now, there’s something about them that can’t be fully explained.
Maybe it’s the warmth of friendship.
Maybe it’s the magic of a full moon.
Or maybe it’s just that sometimes the best ideas come from letting your mind wander.
